Miguel de Beistegui is a philosopher with interests in ontology, political philosophy, and aesthetics. He has written monographs on Heidegger, Deleuze, Proust, Chillida, and Lacan. Following the 2008 financial crisis, his work underwent a critical turn, which led him to write a trilogy on desire as a way of understanding and questioning who we are today, as a specifically liberal technology of government, and as a constructive approach to the self, aimed at exploring alternative and emancipatory practices. His most recent work includes a book on the ‘vices’ (stupidity, spite, and superstition) that threaten our ability to think and diminish our agency (individual or collective), as well as a book and articles on ‘crisis’, which aim to construct a rigorous concept of crisis, distinguish between regimes of crises, and understand why our time has become one of chronic crisis.
